A World Cup Amid Mass Deportations.

The world’s most popular sporting event has begun. Across the United States, deportation operations are being reported in Dallas, Houston, Miami, and other host cities, with DHS not ruling out raids near stadiums or fan zones. In response, lawmakers have proposed the Save the World Cup Act, and community organizers are sounding the alarm. In Los Angeles, SoFi Stadium workers reached a tentative agreement that allows them to strike if ICE threatens or targets workers or fans. Activists are handing out emergency kits at churches and businesses, while organizations are urging people to report enforcement operations to a hotline. What is being reported during the tournament’s first weekend? What risks do fans face? And what are community organizers recommending to stay safe?
