FRUIT TREE TOUR - Recently, First Lady Michelle Obama began an organic garden at the White House, which has brought her national recognition.  Like this one, there are many projects around the nation trying to promote that families do something to better the environment and to get a healthy diet.  In California, for a few years a group of young actors has organized presentations in poor neighborhood schools to plant environmental conscience on the students. A few weeks ago the group “Common Vision” arrived in Fresno. Our reporter Zaidee Stavely interview them during their visit to a local grammar school and prepared this report, part of our series Aire Libre.

BOMBERAS DE LA BAHÍA - THE BAY’S BOMBERAS: La “Bomba” is a Puerto Rican musical genre created by African slaves and their descendents while working at colonial plantations in the island. Traditionally, the groups’ members are mostly men, but in San Francisco a group of Latin American women have formed “Las Bomberas de la Bahía” or The Bay’s Bomberas, a pioneering group in this musical genre formed solely by women, who challenging the tradition give a breath of fresh air to bomba music. Our correspondent Farida Jhavala-Romero interviewed the group and files this report, part of our series “Raíces” – profiles of folk artists.
