MONDAY, JUNE 30. PROGRAM # 5484. 12:00 PDT. THE DREAM ACT. The California Dream Act, which would let undocumented students to apply for financial aid, is moving forward in the California legislature. While ten states have passed laws allowing undocumented students to qualify for in-state tuition fees, only two allow these students to compete for financial aid. WEDNESDAY, JULY 2. PROGRAM # 5486. 12:00 PDT. TORTURE HEARINGS. The U.S. House Judiciary Committee is conducting hearings to examine the policies of the Bush administration allowing the use of torture against detainees. "Torture memos" written after 9/11 allowing harsh interrogation practices such as waterboarding were at the center of the congressional hearing. This program includes excerpts of the most recent hearing and comments from a political analyst.

SUING AGAINST NATURALIZATION DELAYS. More than one million immigrants, mostly Latinos, are waiting to be naturalized and many may not get their citizenship on time to vote in November. A civil rights group is suing the federal government to force immigration authorities to complete those petitions. Presidential contenders Barack Obama and John McCain appeared before a gathering of Latino public officials. A major area of contention was immigration reform. Obama accused McCain of shifting from immigration reform because of politics. McCain called undocumented immigrants "God's children."
