INTENSE COURTSHIP OF LATINO VOTE - Obama and McCain began this week what is to date their most intense campaign to capture Latino voters’ attention. The presumptive presidential nominees spoke before hundreds of Latino leaders during the annual conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). Now, as Patricia Guadalupe reports, both campaigns are in full force trying to get the strong support of Latino voters, particularly in the so-called swing states, such as Florida and the Midwest region.

 

 

AZ SHERIFF LOOSES FUNDS DUE TO RAIDS - There is no more important task for the Sheriff of the most populated county in Arizona that to detain undocumented immigrants. Amidst complaints and raids, the most feared man in that border state has arrested 5,000 undocumented, provoking an unprecedented wave of fear. Confrontations among activists and local authorities, and the Sheriff Joe Arpaio are happening more frequently. Aprpaio, who has decorated his patrol cars with messages saying "stop illegal immigration", says nothing will stop him.   Elvia Díaz spoke to those who have experience Arpaio's rigor and don't dare go outside for fear of being caught by his people.

 

 

TEENAGERS WANT EDUACTIONAL INDEPENDENCE - The story of a group of teenagers from Massachusetts, who apparently enter into a pregnancy pact, stirred great controversy a few days ago. Now, a group of Latina teenagers from Southern California are signing another pact, this one for going to the University - route they hope will give them educational independence. All of this while the nation celebrates its 4th of July, Independence Day. Rubén Tapia spoke to the Latina teenagers.
