Fresno, CA.  Línea Abierta, the only national Spanish-language talk show in U.S. public radio will broadcast two live shows from the Texas border cities of Del Rio and Ciudad Acuña, Mexico next Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Rio Grande or Rio Bravo, the well-known landmark flowing between Mexico and the U.S., has been a symbol of greatness and fertility.  But in recent years it has become a source of pollution and is also in danger of drying out. On Tuesday, January 24, Línea Abierta will have a discussion from the studios of affiliate station XERF 1570 AM in Ciudad Acuña about the effects of the river degradation on the border communities. It will also explore what is being done to restore it.

On Wednesday, January 25, Línea Abierta will broadcast from Del Rio, Texas, home to one of the largest air force bases in the U.S.  As the death toll in Iraq increases, the voices of people clamoring for the return of the troops also rise. Others remain staunchly supportive of the President’s war plan. Listen live to the voices of citizens in Del Rio and hear how this war is affecting this military town.

Both days the broadcast will air LIVE from 2 PM to 4 PM  (CENTRAL TIME).

Almost in its eleventh year on the air, Línea Abierta continues to be the first and only live talk show on Spanish-language radio that has continuously served audiences across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Mexico with engaging shows designed to inform, educate and address issues that improve the lives of Latinos.  Línea Abierta currently airs on 44 affiliate stations. The talk show service is a production of Radio Bilingüe and its satellite service, Satélite Radio Bilingüe, the national Latino public radio network with headquarters in Fresno and San Francisco, CA.  Radio Bilingüe’s audio service is also available online via a LIVE webcast on www.radiobilingue.org.

Partner station XERF, La Poderosa, is an affiliate of Instituto Mexicano de la Radio, the Mexican public broadcast system. Its super-power signal reaches throughout South Texas, including San Antonio, Laredo, Uvalde and Del Rio.

Funding for the special series from Texas is provided in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
