Fresno, CA. Beginning a new chapter of radio service in Texas launching Línea Abierta-Texas Edition, Radio Bilingüe will be airing two live programs from the studios of KSTX public radio on Wednesday, May 4 and Thu, May 5, during the 24th Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival, an internationally acclaimed gathering of accordion virtuosos in San Antonio, the hub of Tejano Conjunto music.

Air Times:  Wednesday May 4th from 12 noon to 2 PM (PDT); Thursday May 5th from 1 PM to 3 PM (PDT).

The programs will air on Línea Abierta, the Spanish-language national talk show. This broadcast will be co-hosted by Samuel Orozco, founding executive producer and host of Línea Abierta and Alma Garza, host of Radio Bilingüe’s Tejano music programming for almost two decades. This live program will feature interviews with Tejano stars Eva Ybarra, Mingo Saldívar, Los Dos Gilbertos, and other headline performers of the event, also known as the Puro Conjunto y Baile festival. Music experts will also share insights on this regional tradition rooted in South Texas.

This special broadcast coincides with the celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican American holiday and, at the same time, signals the beginning of a special series of Línea Abierta, to serve Tejano audiences who currently have no access to public radio broadcasts in Spanish. Línea Abierta will reach new audiences in Texas by utilizing the powerful AM signal of Mexican public station XERF in the border city of Ciudad Acuña.

This kick off broadcast is aired in collaboration with KSTX, San Antonio’s public radio. The Texas Edition series is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and is developed in partnership with Instituto Mexicano de la Radio (IMER), owner of public station XERF-AM in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila.  This station reaches San Antonio, Laredo, Uvalde, Del Rio, Crystal City, and other parts of Texas. IMER is Mexico’s largest public radio network.

Línea Abierta, the first and only Spanish-language national talk show in public radio, airs on 44 stations in the U.S., Puerto Rico and México. The talk show service is a production of Radio Bilingüe, the California-based Latino network that distributes programming via satellite to stations in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Mexico. Radio Bilingüe also has a live online audio streaming operation at www.radiobilingue.org.
