IOWA PLANT CLOSES. One of the largest companies in Sioux City, Iowa, the John Morrell meat processing plant, plans to close its doors in April. The move will eliminate 1500 jobs, many of them occupied by Latinos. Samuel Orozco, of Radio Bilingüe, and Isaac Quiñones, of affiliate station KWIT, host this show from Sioux City, Iowa.

Latinos are changing the landscape of Midwestern towns, lining the Main Streets and downtowns of rural Iowa and Nebraska with Latino businesses. Latinos are becoming farmers faster than any other population group in Iowa, yet face problems like lack of access to credit and anti-immigrant backlash. Editors of Iowa Latino newspapers and grassroots activists discuss his State of the Union address and the Obama presidency one year after inauguration, the primary election process, and the changing face of the Iowa electorate.

THE RAID IN POSTVILLE. Twenty months ago, Postville, Iowa was the scene of the largest immigration raid in U.S. history. The federal raid against Agriprocessors meat plant resulted in the arrest of nearly 400 workers, a company in bankruptcy, separated immigrant families, a crippled local economy and a city government in financial trouble. In a live roundtable, a filmmaker, human rights advocates, detained immigrants, and Postville residents revisit the immigration trial and the outlook for the town.

IMMIGRANT HEALTH REFORM. Under proposed health reform legislation, undocumented immigrants are being banned from purchasing health coverage in the insurance exchange market. In addition, legal resident immigrants are barred from enrolling in Medicaid during their first five years in the U.S. Live from Capitol Hill, this program focuses on how immigration reform could change healthcare reform.

Due in part to the loss of employment and employer-based health insurance, Latinos continue to be among the most likely to be uninsured. Live from Capitol Hill, Samuel Orozco and Chelis López meet with leaders to talk about what is being done to include immigrants in federal health reform plans, and the impact of the 2010 Census on federal money for health care.
