HEATWAVE WARNING. Hot weather is causing trouble in many states around the U.S. Authorities report several deaths and hundreds of people treated for heat-related illnesses. This program focuses on the safety of outdoor workers, including health advice, proposals for emergency relief and efforts in California to amend heat-stress regulations in the fields.

END OF THE DREAM. A study on Latino homeownership found that the current mortgage crisis is wiping out the home ownership dreams of Latinos and Blacks. Also, community-based organizations are stepping up pressure against mortgage service companies that haven’t signed on to President Obama’s “Making Home Affordable” plan to help stop foreclosures.

EDUARDO GALEANO: MIRRORS. Acclaimed Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano talks about his latest book “Mirrors,” a collection of short stories about the history of the world. In this interview, Galeano discusses current topics, including Obama’s presidency, the growth of Latinos in the U.S., and his life-long work to celebrate unsung heroes.  Galeano recently spoke at a sold-out event in the San Francisco Bay Area as part of a national tour to promote his book.

A BETTER COUNT? Latinos are the fastest-growing demographic group in the U.S. but many worry that their numbers will not be accurately reflected in next year’s Census.
