MONDAY, JUNE 29.

ROOTS MUSICIANS. In this pre-taped roundtable hosted by guest host Chelis López, folk musicians who headline the Latino music festival at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC, comment on the impact and future of their music. This program includes an interview with Lidia María Hernández López, a.k.a., La India Canela, an accordion player from the highlands of the Dominican Republic who has gained recognition as a top performer of meringue típico. The program culminates with a conversation with Ana Veydo, singer and dancer of Grupo Cimarron, who has gained international recognition as interpreter of canto recio from the plains of Colombia.

TUESDAY, JUNE 30.

IMMIGRATION EDITION. Rosalba Piña, an immigration law expert, hosts this edition from Chicago. Piña provides news and analysis on the outcomes of the meeting scheduled between President Obama and congressional leaders on immigration policy. Piña also answers listener questions about the dos and don’ts when applying for residence and naturalization.

COUP IN HONDURAS. The Honduran armed forces ousted democratically-elected President Manuel Zelaya and installed Congressman Roberto Micheletti. Thousands of people from civil organizations are protesting the coup in the streets and the United Nations has condemned the action as illegal. This program examines reactions of the U.S. government and Honduran emigres in the U.S.

SIMULCAST WITH JALISCO: IMMIGRATION SUMMIT. After two cancellations, this Thursday finally took place the meeting between President Obama and legislators from both sides of the aisle to address immigration reform. The encounter kicks off Obama’s efforts to fulfill his campaign promise to make immigration a “top priority on his first year.” Analyst and legislators are invited to discuss the scenarios for reforming the immigration system. This program is simulcast in conjunction with the three-station network of Sistema Jalisciense de Radio y Televisión in Guadalajara, in Western Mexico.

MEXICO EDITION. On the eve of midterm elections, there is a growing call in Mexico to punish the political parties by nullifying the ballot. Voters go out to vote this Sunday to renew the entire Mexican Congress, five governorships, and hundreds city mayors. While opinion polls show increased support among those who will abstain from voting, few anticipate a significant impact on the current political party system. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this Voz Pública edition from Mexico City.

PUERTO RICO EDITION. In this pre-taped edition from San Juan, PR, WRTU's Wanda Colón Cortés, brings news and analysis on major developments in the Caribbean basin.
