HARVEST OF EMPIRE. How does the U.S. reap what it sowed in Latin America? A new documentary explores the direct correlation between centuries of U.S. armed intervention in Latin America and the Caribbean and today’s immigration crisis. This is an interview with one of the film’s producer’s, on the day of its screening in San Francisco.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16.

MEXICO EDITION. Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano presents a keynote speech in Mexico about the loss and violation of workers' rights. The award-winning journalist remembered the workers of Chicago that in 1886 were sentenced to be hung for their labor activism, and he narrated some of the stories of the exploitation incurred all over the world by companies such as Wal-Mart, General Electric, and McDonald's, with the permission of governments. Galeano was invited by a U.N. organization that announced a scholarship program that will allow 400 students from Haiti to obtain Master's and Ph.D. degrees, with the collaboration of the University of the State of Haiti. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts Voz Pública from Mexico City.
