SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS STANDS. A federal judge decided to leave standing the main part of the Arizona law, that allows police to ask anyone they suspect of being undocumented to show their papers. Another part of the law, prohibiting people from transporting undocumented immigrants, was rejected. This edition looks at this and other recent immigration news.

PEACE CARAVAN ENTERS D.C. The Caravan for Peace, led by Mexican poet and peace activist Javier Sicilia, entered Washington, D.C. where they engage in a full day of advocacy for the victims of violence in Congress. This is the culmination of a tour that crossed the length of the United States. Victims of the drug war in Mexico share their experiences on this journey to raise awareness about the U.S. role in shaping and supporting the Mexican government’s war on drugs and the resulting violence throughout the country.

FOOD AS MEDICINE. A cardiologist tired of seeing a slew of overweight and overmedicated young patients, afflicted by chronic diseases, decided to draw attention to the causes: poor diet, bad nutrition and unhealthy lifestyles. The result is his second book Change Your Diet, Change Your Health, a manual of nutrition which urges Latinos to change the way we view and eat food. This edition offers an exclusive interview with Dr. Jorge Bordenave, known to some as the “Hispanic Dr. Oz.â€

100 YEARS OF SONGS. One of Mexico’s most popular singers of traditional Mexican music turned 100 this year in California. Martin Becerra was the lead singer of Trío Guayacán and Duet Martín y Malena, who became popular in 1940s Mexico. After moving to Los Angeles, Becerra became a memorable voice for decades in Los Angeles as a radio host and personality. This edition offers an interview where this legendary centenarian shares his memories. This edition is part of our series Raíces: Stories about Grassroots Artists.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14.

MEXICO EDITION. Women embroider the names of the victims of the war against drug trafficking on white handkerchiefs, at the same time as priests and congregations of several churches organize a demonstration for peace outside the United States Embassy in Mexico, also demanding justice for crimes committed by border patrol. Meanwhile, in Washington, D.C., poet Javier Sicilia and the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity finish their tour of the United States to ask Barack Obama's administration to stop arms trafficking to Mexico and to reduce drug consumption in the U.S. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts Voz Pública from Mexico City.
