NATURALIZED鈥 AND VOTING. About eight million immigrants are eligible to become citizens. Still, this season immigrants are not feeling the sense of urgency they felt in the months leading to the 2008 presidential election, following the megarallies. Will the new citizens play a significant role in the November election? Are civic organizations effectively targeting citizenship applications and immigrant voters?

TUESDAY, AUGUST 28.

CALIFORNIA 鈥淭RUST,鈥 DOMESTIC WORKERS BILLS. Pro-immigrant activists descend on Sacramento to show support for the California TRUST Act, a bill that passed the Senate and would allow local police to limit detention for deportation and release undocumented detainees if they haven鈥檛 been convicted of serious or violent felonies. Activists are also advocating for the California Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, a proposal that would grant overtime pay, meal breaks and other labor rights to nannies, cooks, caregivers, and other domestic workers who are currently excluded from basic protections under federal law. This is the second initiative of its kind in the nation.

ALSO, 鈥淒EFERRED ACTION鈥: STEP BY STEP. On the heels of the implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, California and other states are working to provide driver鈥檚 licenses to young undocumented immigrants who are eligible. Governors of Arizona, Texas and Nebraska have opposed the measure and announced they will deny driver鈥檚 licenses and other state services to young applicants. A top expert shares news about these and other developments.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29.

ALABAMA AND GEORGIA BLOCKED. A federal court blocked major provisions of anti-immigrant laws in Alabama and Georgia, including Alabama鈥檚 law requiring schools to check the immigration status of students. This live simulcast with the three-station network La Jefa Radio in Birmingham offers an update on this and other current events.

ALSO, CARAVAN FOR PEACE. A caravan led by Mexican poet and peace activist Javier Sicilia crosses this week Alabama on the way to Washington, DC, bringing to U.S. citizens and political leaders a call to control drug consumption and the flow of guns to Mexico. Members of the caravan join this edition from Selma-Montgomery in simulcast with La Jefa Radio in Alabama.

MEXICO EDITION. Mexico's electoral court declared Enrique Pe帽a Nieto president and rejected the bid by candidate Andr茅s Manuel L贸pez Obrador to annul the elections because of corruption. The court said there was no proof that votes were bought. An advisor for L贸pez Obrador says the court should have investigated the claims. Martha Elena Ram铆rez hosts Voz P煤blica from Mexico City.
