On the national holiday to remember civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., this pre-recorded edition takes a look at other bridges between Black and Brown communities: popular African-American singers sang decades ago in Spanish to reach out to Latino audiences, and the ways in which young Latino musicians are using African and African-American rhythms to create new music for all audiences.

HATE RADIO. A new report from the National Hispanic Media Coalition explores how hate groups and hate crimes have spiked while hate radio's popularity and reach have grown across the country. The report details hundreds of consumer complaints to the Federal Communications Commission against powerful talk radio stations. The complaints allege that radio announcers used racist, hate terminology against African-Americans, Jews, and Latinos, and in some cases, encouraged physical violence against people from these groups.

PROGRAM # 6584  12:00 PM PT

MEXICO EDITION. “No Más PRI†is the name of a new campaign to be launched by Mexican cartoonists in this 2012 election year, according to renowned cartoonist Eduardo del Río, “Rius,†who won the National Journalism Prize in November. In 2011, Rius and other cartoonists published in Mexican media a series of cartoons to protest the deaths left by President Felipe Calderón’s fight against organized crime. The writer of more than 100 books and comics, such as Los Agachados and Los Supermachos, says the slogan and image will be the same as the campaign “No Más Sangre†(No More Blood), but it will now be against the political party PRI and perhaps also the PAN party. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts Voz Pública from Mexico City.

Guest: Eduardo Del Río García, “Riusâ€, Cuernavaca, Morelos.
