Second presidential debate, Financial crisis affects remittances, and Health insurance proposals, the opinion of a cancer patient.

SECOND PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE – The economic crisis was the main focus of the second presidential debate between Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama. Voters say they want more details about what the candidates would do to improve the situation. Patricia Guadalupe has the story.

FINANCIAL CRISIS AFFECTS REMITTANCES – In recent days the Bank of Mexico announced the largest decrease in remittances sent to that country since 1995. Some experts say this is due to the financial crisis in the United States. They say immigrants are making less money and cannot afford to send as much to their families in Mexico. Experts say that without money to send home and persecuted by immigration authorities, many immigrants could return to their country, where a high level of unemployment awaits them. Mariana Martinez reports from San Diego.

HEALTH INSURANCE PROPOSALS, THE OPINION OF A CANCER PATIENT – Our collaborator in Los Angeles, Eleazar Salinas, has been fighting a difficult battle with cancer during the past three years. In a special series of commentaries, Salinas has been telling anecdotes of his life with cancer, which was detected in an advanced state. In this piece, Eleazar Salinas offers his opinion about the health plans proposed by the presidential candidates, one of whom considers health a right, the other an individual responsibility.
