McCain, Official Nominee; Sarah Palin debuts as VP Candidate; Latinos Critizice the Republican Platform; Protests and Arrest in Saint Paul

MCCAIN, OFFICIAL NOMINEE - Sen. John McCain accepted the presidential nomination by the Republican Party. Regardless of his quarter of century in Washington, he claimed to be the candidate of change. He pledged to govern with the spirit of bipartisanship and to fight corruption. Samuel Orozco anchored McCain’s address from the convention floor.

 

SARAH PALIN DEBUTS AS VP CANDIDATE - John McCain selected Alaska’s governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. Palin has five kids, supports the right to bear arms and is against abortion, even in cases of rape. Palin addressed the

Republican Convention on Wednesday night. Zaidee Stavely was there.

 

LATINOS CRITIZICE THE REPUBLICAN PLATFORM - The platform approved by the Republican Party produced strong criticism from national Latino organizations. Latino leaders suggested the strong influence of anti-immigrant groups. Some Latino delegates at the convention admitted the shortcomings of their platform in terms of immigration reform. Ruben Tapia has the details.

 

PROTESTS AND ARRESTS IN SAINT PAUL - Approximately 15 000 people demonstrated during the four days of the National Republican Convention. The protestors advocated in favor of immigration reform and the end of the war. 400 people were arrested, among them at least 5 journalists. Tania Unzueta has details from the streets of Saint. Paul, Minnesota.
