Latinos Demand Results, Applicants Demand Citizenship in Order to Vote, and Two Women on Green Party Ticket.

LATINOS DEMAND RESULTS – The fight for the Latino vote continued this week between the presumptive presidential candidates from the Democrat and Republican parties. In addition to investing millions in Spanish-language commercials, the would-be presidents are speaking to Latino audiences, who more and more are calling for policy specifics and concrete results in exchange for their vote. Our correspondent Mariana Martínez reports from the most recent presentation by the candidates at a Latino forum.

APPLICANTS DEMAND CITIZENSHIP IN ORDER TO VOTE – Tired of waiting months for their citizenship applications to go through, a group of immigrants in New York is suing the federal government. They hope to be able to vote in the presidential elections in November. The group, which is backed by civil rights lawyers, went to court this week and is expecting an initial verdict in the next few days. Marco Vinicio González spoke with two of the plaintiffs.

TWO WOMEN ON GREEN PARTY TICKET – This year, the majority of U.S. voters are debating between marking their ballot for Republican John McCain or Democrat Barack Obama. Other parties do exist, known as “alternative” parties, which seek to offer a more varied menu in November’s election. One of these is the Green Party, which this week concluded its presidential nomination process. The final ticket includes an African-American woman and a Latina woman. Dulce María Mora witnessed the nominating convention and reports on the Green Party’s efforts to constitute an alternative for Latinos who do not identify with either Democrats or Republicans.
