Will Clinton Supporters Back Obama?, Public Transportation on the Rise, and Mexican Citizens Distrustful of Plan Mérida.

WILL CLINTON SUPPORTERS BACK OBAMA? – Now that Senator Barack Obama is the presumptive presidential nominee of the Democratic Party, Democrats themselves consider his main challenge to be winning over the followers of his former rival, Senator Hillary Clinton, particularly women and Latinos. Patricia Guadalupe observed the reactions of Clinton supporters during her concession speech and endorsement of Obama.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ON THE RISE – The average price of gasoline rose to 4 dollars a gallon this week for the first time in history. The high prices are causing many people to leave their cars at home and begin using other means of transportation. According to new data from the American Public Transportation Association, there were 85 million more trips taken on public transportation in the first trimester of 2008 than during the same period in 2007. Zaidee Stavely rode on a bus in Fresno, California, to see how equipped the system is for so many new passengers.

MEXICAN CITIZENS DISTRUSTFUL OF PLAN MÉRIDA – This week the U.S. Congress modified the so-called Merida Initiative, which provides money to Mexico to combat drug trafficking. Mexican legislators and politicians approve of the elimination of some conditions on the funds for Mexico, but many Mexican citizens believe that the United States is intervening in domestic policy. Citlali Sáenz has the details.
