Immigrants March Again on May 1st, Marches and Lobbying in Federal Capital, and Exile and Religion in Mexico.

IMMIGRANTS MARCH AGAIN ON MAY 1st – Thousands returned to the streets in a hundred cities this May 1st. Whole families, youth and immigrant workers called for immigration reform to return to the national debate, and for a stop to immigration raids. Our correspondents followed the marches around the country. Los Angeles, Chicago and New York were three of the cities with the largest concentrations.

MARCHES AND LOBBYING IN FEDERAL CAPITAL – In the capital of the country, leaders combined the street protests this May 1st with visits to federal lawmakers’ offices. Patricia Guadalupe was there.

EXILE AND RELIGION IN MEXICO – One of the lesser-known moments in the history of Mexican immigration to the United States happened during the Cristero War. That religious-political conflict caused thousands of deaths and the exile of almost one million Mexicans. The solidarity of United States was fundamental, as registered in a recent book by historian Jean Meyer. Raúl Silva offers this report.
