General Petraeus Reports on Iraq War, President of El Salvador Causes Polemic, and Sheriffs Arrest Undocumented Immigrants.

GENERAL PETRAEUS REPORTS ON IRAQ WAR – On the fifth anniversary of the fall of Saddam Hussein’s government, the general in charge of the international coalition of forces in Iraq, and the U.S. ambassador to the country testify before several congressional committees on the current situation in the conflict zone. Lawmakers show skepticism on progress there. Patricia Guadalupe has more from Washington, D.C.

PRESIDENT OF EL SALVADOR CAUSES POLEMIC – President of El Salvador, Antonio Saca, made waves during a recent visit to Los Angeles. The opposing political party, FMLN, accused Saca of violating El Salvador’s constitution by campaigning for his party during his official visit to the city. The controversy exploded when a letter was made public from a Cuban-American entrepreneur, calling for donations for the presidential campaign of the candidate from the conservative ARENA party, to which the president belongs. As Rubén Tapia reports, the issue divided the Salvadoran community in L.A.

SHERIFFS ARREST UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS – Sheriffs from three counties in southern Arizona say they will begin to arrest undocumented immigrants, following the example of Maricopa County. In the last few days, hundreds of police in Maricopa, the most populated county in Arizona, have targeted neighborhoods where day laborers congregate. The mass arrests of undocumented immigrants in Phoenix and surrounding areas have intensified to such a degree that political warfare has broken out. Elvia Díaz has the details.
