LINEA ABIERTA'S SPECIAL LIVE COVERAGE OF ZAPATISTAS MEETING WITH MEXICO'S CONGRESS
On Wednesday, March 28th, Linea Abierta offered a special live coverage of the historic meeting between the Indigenous rebel leaders and Mexico's Congress.
The special broadcast began at 9:05 a.m. (PST) hosted from Linea Abierta's studios in San Francisco. The broadcast continued with a live hook up to the satellite feed of Mexico's Canal del Congreso. The one-hour feed included the opening of Congress' extraordinary session, followed by welcoming words in Spanish and Zapotec by congressman Hector Sanchez and by the first speech of the Zapatista delegation. The address was given by Comandanta Esther, a masked Tzotzil Indian woman. She appealed to Congress and the Mexican people to approve a bill recognizing Indigenous rights and culture.
This live coverage was followed by a repeat in the first hour of Linea Abierta, 12 p.m. (PST).
