Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Últimos Cuidados?
A: Últimos Cuidados is a Spanish-language radio campaign that promotes hospice care among Latinos. Culturally-relevant news reports, talk shows, mini-dramas, educational messages and other broadcasts introduce Radio Bilingüe listeners to the range of hospice options available to them. First-hand testimonials play a central role in disseminating this timely message.
Q: What is hospice?A: Hospice is a specialized form of care for patients and families confronting the final stages of terminal illness. Hospice care seeks to enable patients to carry on alert, pain-free lives and to manage other symptoms so that their last days of life may be spent with dignity and quality at home or in a home-like setting.
Hospice care emphasizes living well, rather than fighting disease. Hospice patients do not receive medical treatment to cure illness, such as chemotherapy and organ transplants. Instead, hospice doctors and nurses focus on controlling symptoms such as pain and discomfort, which invasive treatment would exacerbate.
