PREVENTING INFANT MORTALITY. In the U.S., infant mortality rates have gone down, including among the Latino population in general. Nevertheless, in certain communities with large Latino populations, infant mortality continues to be a serious concern. This is the case of Fresno, California, the nation's main producer of agriculture. This week, Araceli Garcia reports on efforts in this country to reduce infant deaths among Latinos.

WOMEN'S RIGHTS. Recently, a women's conference was held in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas to denounce the persistent violence against women and the Mexican government's policy against indigenous communities in the region. This conference also marked the beginning of a world-wide campaign for women's rights. Silvia Parra reports from San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas.

RED EARTH. A musical group coming out of Albuquerque, New Mexico is experimenting with different musical styles and languages. The result is a unique blend of music that incorporates Indigenous and Latin American history, with modern and ancient rhythms. This week, Kent Patterson reports on Red Earth.

CUBAN BOY TO BE REPATRIATED. Despite last minute legal efforts and mass protests by Cuban Americans in Miami, the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service has ordered the return of Elian Gonzalez to his father in Cuba. This week, Maria Eraña reports on the case of the 6-year old boy rescued at sea which has become an international political issue.

FLU SEASON INVADES U.S.. According to the Center for Disease Control every state in the nation has reported cases of influenza, marking an unusually brutal flu season. This week, Dr. Elmer E. Huerta gives advise on how to avoid the flu and what to do if you get it anyway.

VIEQUES: TOURISM DROUGHT. For thousands of Puerto Ricans the recent struggle to force the U.S. Navy to out of the island of Vieques has become a prolonged one. And, amid this battle, the economy of the small tourist town has suffered, costing local industries millions of dollars in losses. This week, Patricia Guadalupe reports from Vieques, Puerto Rico.
