MICHOACAN SIMULCAST: IMMIGRATION REFORM AND MEXICO. U.S. Senators return to Washington for a final vote on a broad immigration reform bill. The debate on the floor is scheduled to resume today. In this simulcast with the twelve-station network of Radio Michoacán in Morelia, analysts give their views on the stakes for Mexico, and the feelings of Mexicans on the U.S. immigration debate.

IMMIGRATION EDITION – THE SENATE. U.S. Senators take on the debate over a number of amendments to the “compromise deal”. Demonstrators on both sides of the debate are swamping Capitol Hill with emails and telephone calls. Rosalba Piña hosts this program from Chicago. She interviews newsmakers and facilitates listener calls.

TEXAS EDITION – MONEY REMITTANCES. In this conversation with host Samuel Schmidt, Dr. Raul Hinojosa-Ojeda explores the economic impact that legalizing millions of undocumented workers would have on the economy of immigrant families, U.S. cities, and the money-remittance market. Hinojosa-Ojeda is the president of No Borders, Inc., a company that provides money transfer services to residents of Latin America and immigrants in the U.S. He is also associate professor of Urban Planning at UCLA.

A FINAL BILL. A final immigration bill is set to be voted this week. Among the controversial provisions that threaten to derail the proposed legislation are: a point system favoring labor skills over family ties, a guest-worker program, and heavy border security measures. Key negotiators and observers are being invited to this program.
