ELECTION DAY: THE AFTERMATH. Ryan Worm and Luis Davila, news reporter and general director respectively for Asociación Latino Americana para la Educación Radiofónica, a multinational radio network based in Quito, talks about how Latin American public opinion views the reelection of U.S. President Bush. Also, listeners comment on the impact of Latino voters in this election.


REELECTION AND IMMIGRATION REFORM. Leaders of immigrant-rights groups get together in Los Angeles to regroup and plan a campaign of lobbying and public pressure in support of new immigration laws under the restrictive political climate brought by the reelectin. THE BATTLE OF THE SURVEYS. A Latino civic research organization says that media networks are not accurately measuring the voting pattern of Latinos and in the past election failed to estimate the preferences of Latino voters. How did Latinos vote on November 2?

ALSO, GONZÁLES PICKED FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL. President Bush nominated White House counsel Alberto Gonzáles as Attorney General to replace departing John Ashcroft. Judge González would become the first Latino U.S. attorney general. While some Latino groups welcome Gonzalez’ nomination, civil liberties groups ask for full hearings on Gonzalez’ controversial stands on reproductive rights and legal protections for war-time detainees.

9/11 COMMISSION BILLS. Two pieces of legislation known as 9/11 Commission bills or HR 10 and S 2845 are being negotiated in conference committee. Pro-immigrant groups are waging a letter writing campaign to defeat them. They warn that the bills would crackdown on immigrant communities. The bills include provisions such as doubling the number of Border Patrol agents, limits to political asylum applications, and restricting driver’s licenses for the undocumented.

ALSO, REYES FAMILY FIGHTS DEPORTATION. Monica Reyes makes a public plea for his father Tomas, who is about to be deported to Mexico after failing to win a final appeal in an immigration court. He is being denied residence for a felony committed twenty years ago.

ALSO, ARIZONA’S PROPOSITION 200. A proposition that bans public services for the undocumented was approved by voters in Arizona, but may never become law. Civil-rights groups are preparing to challenge the measure in court. This is an update on Proposition 200.

The Court decided that a drunk driving accident is not a “crime of violence” that would allow government to deport a permanent resident. SIMULCAST GUADALAJARA. In this edition of the monthly simulcast series Sin Fronteras, Radio Bilingüe joins XEJB in Guadalajara to interconnect live audiences in the U.S. and Western Mexico.

PAISANOS ON THE ROAD. The season to travel back home begins for about one million migrants who hit the roads for the Mexican heartlands. The Mexican government is preparing to kick off its annual Paisano program, a campaign to ensure a bribe-free and safe trip for the holidays. This edition includes representatives of Mexican government agencies that deal with migrant inspections.

Members of the Housing Assistance Council, a national nonprofit organization that helps the poorest of the poor in the most rural areas build their homes, is meeting in Washington, DC to discuss rural affordable housing and celebrate local leaders. Housing leaders talk about the challenges to develop rural homes in times of fiscal deficits and conservatism. They are also advising low-income beneficiaries about an annual credit about to expire. This program is aired in collaboration with the National Alliance for Hispanic Health.
