Hospitals are being built in Tijuana to meet the growing demand and plans to develop a medical plaza with clinics and pharmacies are under way. Also, in California, Republican legislators are moving to block the spending plan objecting to Democratic proposals that expand state-funded healthcare programs to include undocumented children.

A group of Mexican-American pilots from El Paso resumes this week regular flights over the border area in New Mexico and Arizona to save immigrants from dying of dehydration. Named “Paisanos al Rescate,” the group of volunteers drops bottles of water on parachutes to individuals crossing the border through the scorching desert lands.

“NACHO LIBRE.” This is the title of a comedy that hits the movie theaters this week. The comedy is inspired by the true story of a Veracruz priest who became a lucha libre wrestler to raise money and save a shelter for orphans. In this program, the film director and a retired wrestling star from El Paso, TX, have been invited to comment about “Nacho Libre” and the career of Mexican wrestling.

MACDONALD’S. Florida tomato workers protesting poor working conditions and wages want fast-food giant MacDonald’s Corp. to finance one-cent-per-pound pay raise. Florida supplies 90 percent of domestic fresh produce to the country and Immokalee is among the poorest farming towns. Leaders of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers talk about their efforts to negotiate with the fast-food chain.
WOMEN DISCRIMINATION IN THE FIELDS. Six Latina farm workers are suing a major agricultural company in Delano, CA alleging their job applications were rejected because they are women. EEOC officials say the employment record of Kovacevich 5 Farms, of hiring zero women in a five-year period, is unheard of in any other company. Both sides were invited to comment.

KICKING THE GAS ADDICTION. Gas prices are soaring and depleting the pocketbooks. What are consumers doing to save money and pollute less? This program explores ideas for green transportation.
