Fresno, CA. Noticiero Latino, the first and only network news service in Spanish public radio, begins the year with plans for yet another round of news coverage of the congressional debates on immigration reform. This year, news correspondents in Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Diego and other major cities will continue providing leading reportorial coverage in the following areas:

• The immigration beat. This year, Noticiero Latino correspondents will bring timely news stories on everything from the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007, to the federal raids of Operation Return to Sender, to the new round of pro-immigrant rallies, and the increasing actions of vigilante groups at the border.

• Environmental reporting. Noticiero Latino is a leading news service in the field of environmental journalism in Spanish-language media. Correspondents have reported on the debate to clean the air of Los Angeles and the San Joaquin Valley, the most polluted air basins in the nation, and the legislative battles leading to the Global Warming Solutions Act in California. Now, they use that experience to chronicle efforts in Washington following California in curbing greenhouse gas emissions.

• The Health beat. Noticiero Latino has consistently covered emerging trends in Latino health, including chronic health conditions, lifestyles, and medical practices that impact Latino populations. This year, the dueling models for health care reform will headline some stories.

This ongoing news coverage is possible thanks in part to a grant awarded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private, non-profit corporation created by Congress, and the largest single source of funding for programming development in public broadcasting.
