The
Final Epic of Salvador Allende.
On September 11th, the anniversary of the military coup that overthrew Chilean
President Salvador Allende 30 years ago, Radio Bilingüe premieres this two-hour-and-a-half
radio drama that recreates the story of the tragic day. Renowned Chilean theater
actors and actresses play the roles of President Salvador Allende and his
wife Tencha Bussi, among many others. The Spanish-language drama was written
by Chilean writer Mónica Echeverría with the help of eyewitness reports, letters,
anecdotes, and memories from survivors. The program is a production of Radio
Tierra in Santiago de Chile and it airs simultaneously in the U.S. on Radio
Bilingüe's public radio network. The program also simulcasts on Radio La Tribu
in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Radio El Puente in Montevideo, Uruguay, and Radio
Milenia in Lima, Peru.
Fragments
of Memory.
Chilean writers, journalists and artists share their memories of the military
coup in Chile 30 years ago. The testimonials and anecdotes air in English
in this series of ten 2-minute-long segments produced by Radio Tierra in Santiago
de Chile and premiered in the U.S. by Radio Bilingüe.

el Mariachi! Festival.
This musical documentary showcases the sounds and voices of Radio Bilingüe's
21st Annual ¡Viva el Mariachi! Festival in Fresno, CA. The one-hour program
features Mexican ranchero legend Juan Valentín as well as 50-year-old Mariachi
México de Pepe Villa. Nati Cano y Mariachi Los Camperos and Mariachi Mujer
2000 from Los Angeles, and Julián González y Los Cenzontles are also featured
in this special program.

Cruz Reynoso.
Former California Supreme Court justice Cruz Reynoso talks about community
service and cultural pride in this speech delivered before broadcasters attending
the Latino Radio Summit last fall. Reynoso is Vice Chair of the U.S. Civil
Rights Commission and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
