INTERNATIONALLY-RENOWNED COMPOSER "TITE" CURET DIES

Legendary Puerto Rican songwriter Catalino "Tite" Curet Alonso died August 5, 2003, of a respiratory disease in Baltimore. He was 77.

The award-winning Curet wrote about 2,000 songs, including La Tirana, Plantación Adentro and Las Caras Lindas, in genres such as salsa, bolero and samba. Many are now widely popular songs in the international salsa repertoire.

"Tite" has a special place on Satélite Radio Bilingüe, the Latino public radio network. In 1995, he was a special guest during the celebrations to kick off Satélite's flagship call-in program Línea Abierta in Albuquerque.

Also, "Tite"'s Tropicalísimo, a radio program of Radio Universidad de Puerto Rico featuring Caribbean rhythms and host's insights, has become a weekly staple on Satélite Radio Bilingüe's programming for the past eight years.

As a tribute, Radio Bilingüe is planning to continue showcasing a repeat of "Tite"s radio series Tropicalísimo. A replay of his conversations on Línea Abierta is also in the planning.
