ALEJANDRO GLUSMAN

Alejandro Glusman passed away in Fresno, CA on January 22, 2003. He was 34 years old. Alex found his home in Fresno three years ago when he moved from Chicago to work for Radio Bilingue. His love for radio and his dedication to helping the community made Fresno the perfect place for him. He brought in his skills and talents initially to his work as a volunteer coordinator for the radio station and later became involved in production and radio journalism. Last year he became the Regional Programming Director for Radio Bilingue in Fresno and several of its affiliates in the central valley. Alex expressed his dedication to the community by volunteering his time and skills to multiple projects. He supported and promoted the popular arts including poetry, theater and music. He was himself a talented poet and actor and participated with Grupo Antifaz and Teatro de la Tierra. He was also an expert in jazz and had a longstanding commitment to Latin American and African American cultures. He was allways available to help the needy, the sick, the elderly and the discriminated. He was deeply commited to raising social awareness around issues of health, education and immigration. He made all his contributions humbly and quietly. He had great empathy, quick wit and a terrific sense of humor. Alex was the oldest boy in a family of four. He was born in Mexico City and although he immigrated to the U.S. at an early age, his love for Mexico never left him. He completed his studies in Radio Broadcasting at Columbia College in Chicago, and the Ohio University in Athens, OH. For many years he had a jazz program in WHPK in Chicago, where he indulged in sharing his love for music with others. He is survived by his parents, Dr.'s Marta and Silvio Glusman, his sisters, Dr. Mariana Glusman and Marcela Gllusman, his brothr Andres, sister-in-law Jennifer Glusman and brother-in-law Douglas Fraser, as well as his beloved nieces and nephew. In Fresno he leaves an extended family of loving friends. A Memorial Tribute was held at Arte America on January 24, 2003, and burial will take place in Chicago on Monday, January 27, 2003.
