2002 Director's Awards

"You got what it takes to satisfy, you got what it takes to set my soul on fire………"
Last year, at the Joint Congress of the Arts, the Arts Council instituted several awards to honor and recognize the achievements and contributions of those who work in the nonprofit arts arena. Annual awards include the Council Award (recognizing one individual or organization for exemplary service to arts & culture), the Director's Awards, (recognizing five individuals for extraordinary contribution to the arts) and the Legislator Awards (recognizing elected officials for their dedicated support for arts & culture). Awards for outstanding contributions within a given discipline are awarded every five years. The Sankofa Award (for long time public service) is awarded periodically.

It is my great pleasure to announce this year's Director's Awards for extraordinary contribution to the arts in California. This year's awards go to:

On behalf of the citizens of California, I would like to thank these awardees for their passion for, and dedication and commitment to, creativity.

Arrangements will be made to formally present the awards sometime in January or February, perhaps a luncheon in Sacramento or some other venue.

The Council will announce its Annual Award in January.
